Seems to me like a girl's name. But it's pretty vague.
I've heard 'Alexis' for both boys and girls but not Alexas. Seems more girly to me though.
I think it's Greek in origin and masculine in gender or maybe Shakespeare just made it up so I'd cast what you've got and dress them ambiguously.
A minute's research, which I should have carried out before I rushed into print, shows that Larrington Walker played Alexas in the RSC's production last month and he's a man.
